Experiencing the Power of God’s Word through Storytelling

If you want something important to stick in people’s memories, tell them a story.  So say communications experts.  Jesus often spoke through meaningful stories to those He encountered, drawing crowds yearning to hear more.  His stories intrigued both the curious and the skeptical. Bible Storytelling can bring the Scriptures to life, especially when the teller chooses a relevant story that relates to the context and challenges in his or her own life and in the lives of those listening.  Who wouldn’t like to become such a captivating storyteller?  Come and learn!

Jim and Janet Stahl are Bible Storytelling trainers.  For the past 10 years they have been coaching Christians to build their skills as Bible storytellers, helping them use their own languages and communication styles to tell Scripture.  Through their work with Wycliffe Bible Translators and Seed Company, they have been working with churches and ministries in the US and around the world (Africa, Asia and the Pacific).  Between January 10th and 20th, Jim and Janet will be visiting Truro, demonstrating and interacting with various gatherings at Truro to help us learn about Bible storytelling.  On Saturday, January 20th the Stahls will provide training and coaching in Bible Storytelling to all who would like to hone their skills and style to tell the stories of Jesus in natural and winsome ways.  You’re invited!

‘We find Jesus, when our story meets Jesus’ story.’  That’s a quote from the well-known Christian author and master storyteller, Walter Wangerin.  Storytelling is a live interaction between the teller, the story, and the audience. Bible storytelling is as much about the storyteller being challenged by the story and by learning to tell it, as it is a tool for ministry and sharing the Good News.  As you choose to learn and practice telling Bible stories where your life stories have met Jesus’ story, you’ll want to tell others – extending Jesus’ story to a wider circle who will find Him in the realities and challenges of their lives.
